Student Assembly
The Portland Guadalajara Sister City Association (PGSCA) Presents the 2011 Student Assembly.
ASSEMBLY REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN
Each year students are encouraged to come and experience Mexico right in their own back yard. Once again the PGSCA will offer the students a true cultural exchange experience by introducing them to traditional Mexican dance, Artisans and authentic food offered throughout the Cinco de Mayo Fiesta. This event captures the true spirit and beauty of Mexico.
The PGSCA will feature Oregon’s Premier Ballet Groupo Folklorico & Mariachi and offers 2 FREE morning performances and FREE event admission to play at the fiesta after the private performance.
The students assemblies program serves as a vehicle that encourages and promotes cross-cultural understanding and harmony through education, art, dance, and folklore that will impact today’s students and generations to come.
PGSCA extends the invitations to Elementary and Middle school age children only to attend the FREE student assemblies to be held Friday, May 4th 2011.
Please fill out the application and submit before April 1st.
If you would like to be added to the mailing list or need more information, please call 503-232-7550 or e-mail at elcochito21@frontier.com
When? / ¿Cuándo? The Fiesta 5 de Mayo celebration will kick-off on Thursday, May 5 and close on Sunday evening, May 8. The special Student Assemblies will be held on Friday, May 4th 2012, at 9:00 am at Portland’s Tom McCall Waterfront Park on S.W. Naito Parkway! Seating is arranged with the youngest children seated nearest to the stage. Accommodations will be made for physically challenged youth.
Transportation? / ¿Transportación? Each class/school is responsible for arrangements, payment of their appropriate transportation, and parking. However, in recent years the PGSCA has arranged for school bus parking along SW Naito Parkway. We will inform you about parking in the Confirmation Letter that will be sent to you after we receive your completed registration form. PGSCA is not responsible for injuries, lost or stolen goods.
How do I behave? / ¿Comportamiento? Students will be attentive and respectful during the performance and will remain in the tent until the conclusion of the performance. Students will be seated during the performance. Teachers and chaperones are requested to keep youth inside the main tent during the performance.
How do I dress? / ¿Cómo Vestirme? Casual and warm and preferably in pants and tennis shoes because the weather in Oregon is unpredictable! Rainwear may also be appropriate. Teachers and students will be sitting on the ground. To avoid discomfort, make sure you bring a plastic tarp large enough to seat your class. Chairs will not be available.
Food? / ¿Comida? You will have the option to bring sack lunches (storage is available at the PGSCA booth onsite), or purchase lunch from food booth vendors. If you bring sack lunches, you must bring them in a box or plastic crate to keep them together. The box or crate must be clearly marked with your school name. Food vendors and merchants will open after the performances and the main park will open to the public at 11:00 am.
Cost? / ¿Cuánto Cuesta? These two special performances (student assemblies) are free. Schools must make ALL arrangements for transprtation, parking, and food, but otherwise this event is part of PGSCA’s way of making sure that youth have an opportunity to learn about Mexican folklore, dance, music, and culture and enjoy themselves at the same time!
